World Intellectual Property Day 2026 Competition

The Amrita Centre for Intellectual Property and Innovation (ACIPI), Amrita International School of Law, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, is organizing a National Quiz Competition and National Essay Writing Competition on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day — 26 April 2026.

The event will be conducted online under the theme “Ideas Matter: Celebrate Innovation, Celebrate IP.” The programme aims to promote awareness and engagement with Intellectual Property Law, innovation policy, and contemporary technological developments.

The celebration will include interactive academic activities, expert addresses, and national-level competitions designed to encourage students to explore the role of intellectual property in creativity, technology, and economic development.

About the Event

In commemoration of World Intellectual Property Day, observed globally by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on 26 April, ACIPI is organizing national-level competitions to promote IP literacy, critical thinking, and research-oriented engagement among students and scholars.

The programme will also feature guest lectures by distinguished academicians and practitioners in Intellectual Property and Technology Law.

“Ideas Matter: Celebrate Innovation, Celebrate IP”

The theme emphasizes the importance of ideas, creativity, and technological innovation, and highlights the role of intellectual property law in transforming creative works and inventions into legally protected assets that contribute to social and economic development.

Competitions

1. National IP Quiz Competition

The quiz will include multiple rounds covering areas such as:

  • Patents

  • Copyright

  • Trademarks

  • Designs

  • Geographical Indications

  • International IP Treaties

  • Emerging Technology and AI in IP

  • Landmark IP Cases

The quiz aims to promote interactive learning and awareness of intellectual property frameworks.

2. National Essay Writing Competition

Participants are invited to submit analytical essays on contemporary issues in intellectual property law.

Suggested Themes:

Participants may write on any of the following themes:

  1. Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Intellectual Property

  2. Intellectual Property and Innovation in the Digital Economy

  3. Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Heritage

  4. Balancing IP Rights and Access to Knowledge

  5. Role of IP in Start-up Ecosystems and Innovation Policy

Participants may also propose related topics within the broader field of Intellectual Property Law and Innovation Policy.

Eligibility

Participation is open to:

  • Undergraduate students

  • Postgraduate students

  • Research scholars

  • Law students and students from other disciplines interested in IP

Registration Fees

  • Quiz Competition: ₹100 + GST

  • Essay Writing Competition: ₹150 + GST

    Payment will be made through the official payment link/UPI QR code provided in the registration form.

Essay Submission Guidelines

  1. Word Limit: 1500 — 2000 words (excluding footnotes)

  2. Co-authorship: Not permitted

  3. Citation Style: Bluebook (20th Edition)

  4. Font: Times New Roman

  5. Font Size:

    1. Text: 12

    2. Footnotes: 10

  6. Line Spacing: 1.5

  7. Footnotes: Single spacing

  8. The submission must be original and unpublished.

Quiz Competition Guidelines

  1. The quiz will be conducted online.

  2. Participants must ensure stable internet connectivity.

  3. The quiz will consist of multiple rounds, including knowledge-based and rapid-fire rounds.

  4. Decisions of the quiz moderators and organizing committee will be final and binding.
