“Why no action taken against anti-social elements who vandalised Dr. Ambedkar’s Statue”; MP High Court seeks explanation from Police Authorities

The State accepted notice and sought time to obtain instructions as to “why action has not been taken against the anti-social elements who have broken the statue of Dr. Ambedkar on the night of 10-02-2025.”

Madhya Pradesh High Court: In a writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking appropriate directions against the inaction of the authorities with regards to a serious incident involving the desecration of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a Division Bench of Suresh Kumar Kait, CJ., and Vivek Jain, J., sought a clear response from the authorities, either justifying the delay or confirming that action has been taken, through properly sworn affidavits.

The instant matter is alleged to be committed on the night of 10-02-2025 when some anti-social elements broke the statue of Dr. Ambedkar, however no prompt action was taken by the law enforcement authorities thereafter.

The Court took cognizance of the serious nature of the allegations, the issued the notice as to “why action has not been taken against the anti-social elements who have broken the statue of Dr. Ambedkar on the night of 10-02-2025.” The State accepted notice and sought time to obtain instructions.

The Court directed the respondent 3-Superintendent of Police, Seoni, District Seoni (SP) and the Station House Officer of Police Station, Dhuma, District Seoni (SHO) to file an affidavit indicating as to why any action has not been taken by them and if any action is already taken, SHO should file the affidavit to that effect. The Court listed the matter on 07-05-2025.
