oath as Supreme court judges

On 29-8-2025, Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi were sworn in as new Judges of Supreme Court. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai.

Justice Alok Aradhe, formerly Chief Justice of Bombay High Court and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi, formerly Chief Justice of Patna High Court, were recommended for elevation to Supreme Court by the Supreme Court Collegium on 25-8-2025. In a record speed, the Ministry of Law and Justice confirmed the recommendations on 27-8-2025.

With the new inductions, judicial strength of the Supreme Court will reach to 34 Judges, which is also the sanctioned strength of the Court.

Justice Alok Aradhe1

Born on 13-04-1964, Justice Alok Aradhe studied B.Sc. and LL.B and enrolled as Advocate on 12-07-1988. He practiced mainly in Civil and Constitutional; Arbitration and Company matters in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh. Justice Aradhe was designated as Senior Advocate in April 2007.

Justice Alok Aradhe was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on 29-12-2009 and Permanent Judge on 15-02-2011.

He was thereafter transferred to High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and took oath on 20-09-2016. Justice Aradhe was thereafter transferred to Karnataka High Court, where he took oath as Judge on 17-11-2018. Justice Aradhe also assumed charge as the Acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court from 03-07-2022 to 14-10-2022.

Subsequently, Justice Aradhe was appointed as Chief Justice, High Court for the State of Telangana on 19-07-2023 and took oath of office on 23-07-2023.

He was later transferred as the Chief Justice of High Court of Bombay and assumed charge as such on 21-01-2025.

Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi2

Justice Vipul M. Pancholi Born on 28-5-1968 at Ahmedabad. He Passed Bachelor of Science (Electronics) from St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat University and Master of Law in Commercial Group from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat University.

Justice Pancholi enrolled at the Bar in September 1991 and started practice as an advocate in the High Court of Gujarat. He was later appointed as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor, High Court of Gujarat and served as such for seven years till March 2006. During his years as advocate, Justice Pancholi conducted important cases in various branches of law, viz. Criminal Law, Civil Law, Property Law, Service Law, Family Law, Banking Law and various other Laws.

he was subsequently elevated as Additional Judge, High Court of Gujarat on 1-10-2014 and confirmed as Permanent Judge on 10-06-2016. Thereafter he was transferred to Patna High Court and took oath as Judge, Patna High Court on 24-7-2023 and became the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on 21-7-2025.
