Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Law, for a period of two years with effect from 08.05.2025.

Prof. Shakeel Ahmad is a distinguished academician and a highly respected figure in the field of Criminal Law. He has been serving with dedication as a faculty member at the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, since 1996. Over the years, he has made remarkable contributions to legal scholarship and academia.

Prof. Ahmad is the author of the book Population Growth in India (ISBN: 81-214-0629-3) and has published over 40 scholarly articles in prestigious national and international journals, including Supreme Court Journal, Indian Bar Review, Kashmir University Law Review, Civil and Military Law Journal, Kashmir Journal of Legal Studies, Aligarh Law Journal, and Quest for Justice, among others.

His academic mentorship is equally noteworthy. He has successfully supervised eight Ph.D. scholars and is currently guiding seven more doctoral candidates. Additionally, he has overseen more than 35 LL.M dissertations, considered equivalent to M.Phil. degrees, reflecting his commitment to nurturing advanced legal research.

As an active participant in the academic community, Prof. Ahmad has presented numerous research papers at both national and international seminars and conferences. Abstracts of these presentations have been published in the official souvenirs of these scholarly gatherings.

Prof. Ahmad’s teaching portfolio is both broad and profound. He imparts knowledge in core and advanced areas including the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, International Law, Constitutional Law, Commercial Law, Sentencing and Penology, Criminology, Law of Tort, Ethics of Obligations, and Law of Inheritance.

Beyond academia, he has been deeply involved in public service and outreach. Since 1996, he has been at the forefront of organizing legal literacy camps, awareness drives, workshops, and lectures in remote areas of the Aligarh district as part of National Legal Literacy and Mass Awareness Programmes.

Prof. Ahmad also holds several key administrative roles at AMU with exemplary dedication. He serves as Member of the Central Vigilance Commission, Member In-Charge of Properties and Waqfs, and Nodal Officer of the Faculty of Law.
