President appoints Justice N.V. Anjaria, Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice A.S. Chandurkar as Judges of Supreme Court

On 26-5-2025, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of 3 new Judges to the Supreme Court.

On 29-5-2025, the President of India, in exercise of powers under Article 124(2) of the Constitution, appointed the following as new Judges of Supreme Court of India:

  • Justice N.V. Anjaria, Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court
  • Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice Gauhati High Court
  • Justice Atul S. Chandurkar, Judge, Bombay High Court

The confirmation of appointment of Supreme Court Judges comes 3 days after their names were recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on 26-5-2025.

Currently, the judicial strength of the Supreme Court stands at 30 Judges after the retirement of former CJI Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice Abhay S. Oka. upon confirmation of the recommendations the Judges’ strength would rise to 33 Judges, just 1 short of sanctioned strength of 34 Judges.
