About the Host Institution
Founded in 1909, the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, is one of the oldest and most prestigious legal institutions in India. With a legacy spanning over a century, it has produced distinguished legal minds who have significantly contributed to the judiciary, academia, and policymaking.
About the Competition
The competition has been envisioned as a sincere effort to build upon the strong foundation laid by its inaugural edition and to establish itself as a premier event on the national mooting circuit, proudly rooted in Kolkata. The theme of the present edition revolves around the liability of corporations pertaining to climate change, a critical issue in our rapidly industrializing nation. The amalgamation of courtroom advocacy with climate activism offers participants a novel and enriching mooting experience.
Competition Format
The competition will be conducted in two phases: Virtual Rounds and In-Person Rounds.
Virtual Rounds (Saturday, 16th May, 2026)

Preliminary Rounds: All registered teams will compete in the virtual preliminary rounds.
In-Person Rounds (at the Department of Law, University of Calcutta)

Quarter-Finals: The top 8 teams from the preliminary rounds will advance to the quarter-finals. (Wednesday, 3rd June, 2026)

Semi-Finals: The winners of each of the Quarter-Finals will advance to the Semi-Finals. (Thursday, 4th June, 2026)

Finals: The winners of each of the Semi-Finals will compete for the championship. (Thursday, 4th June, 2026)
Registration Details
The registration process consists of two phases, with corresponding fee payments:

Phase 1: Initial registration fee — ₹2400 per team (payable at the time of registration).

Phase 2: Only for teams qualifying for the In-Person Rounds (Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals & Finals) and seeking accommodation — an additional fee of ₹3600.

The competition offers the following cash prizes to recognize outstanding performances:

Best Speaker: ₹10,000

Best Memorial: ₹10,000
Further, Three (3) one-year complimentary subscriptions to SCC Online Web Edition, each worth Rs. 32,000/-, will be distributed to the winning team. The total value of these subscriptions amounts to Rs. 96,000/-.
Additionally, one month of access to the SCC Online Web Edition will be provided to all participants, valued at Rs. 3100/- each.
