All-India Bar Examination-XX

On 7-1-2026, the Bar Council of India (‘BCI’) announced the results of the All-India Bar Examination-XX (‘AIBE-XX’).

Key Highlights:

  1. The AIBE-XX was conducted on 30-11-20251 across 399 centers in 56 different cities.

  2. It was conducted under the direct supervision of the Monitoring Committee of the BCI, chaired by Hon’ble Ms. Justice Hima Kohli, Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, including eminent legal scholars, Vice-Chancellors from leading law universities, and additional special invitees contributing to oversight and transparency.

  3. A total of 2,51,968 candidates appeared for the exam, marking significant participation from aspiring advocates nationwide.

  4. The gender-wise distribution of candidates who appeared for the examination is as follows:

    • Male: 1,65,613

    • Female: 86,336

    • Transgender: 19

  5. The qualifying benchmark for candidates was set at:

    • General/OBC: 43 marks (45% of 95 marks)

    • SC/ST/PwD: 38 marks (40% of 95 marks)

  6. After the exam, the provisional answer key was reviewed following candidate objections. The Monitoring Committee withdrew five incorrect questions and awarded full marks for two questions with multiple correct answers, finalizing the result on 95 marks.

  7. The results reveal that, in terms of category-wise performance:

    • Unreserved: 90,111 qualified

    • OBC: 53,513 qualified

    • SC: 25,290 qualified

    • ST: 5,472 qualified.

  8. Candidates enrolled with various State Bar Councils showed varied performance. For instance:

    • Bar Council of Delhi: 18,371 appeared, 14,431 qualified

    • Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh: 32,611 appeared, 23,911 qualified

    • Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa: 20,331 appeared, 14,105 qualified

    • Bar Council of Rajasthan: 13,985 appeared, 8,014 qualified

    • Bar Council of West Bengal: 4,056 appeared, 2,997 qualified

    • High Court of Jammu & Kashmir: 688 appeared, 582 qualified

    • Bar Council of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry: 8,385 appeared, 7,252 qualified

    • Bar Council of Gujarat: 13,152 appeared, 6,008 qualified

  9. Additionally, 79,039 undertaking candidates appeared, of which 58,662 qualified, while 20,377 did not.

  10. Overall, a total of 2,51,968 candidates appeared for AIBE-XX, out of which 1,74,386 qualified and 77,579 did not, resulting in a pass percentage of 69.21%, which reflects commendable performance across all categories.

  11. BCI has also announced the next AIBE-XXI will be held on 7-6-2026.
