The RGNUL Institute of Competitive Examinations (RICE), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, has announced the National Judgement Writing Competition 2025. The event aims to enhance the analytical and drafting skills of budding law students by simulating the process of judicial reasoning and judgement composition.
RICE, established under the aegis of RGNUL, continues its mission to promote critical thinking and research in law. The competition encourages participants to step into the role of a judge, analyse complex factual and legal issues, and deliver reasoned, precise, and well-structured judgements.
Established under the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act, 2006, RGNUL has emerged as one of India’s leading national law universities, known for its academic excellence and commitment to holistic legal education. Accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the University is recognised by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission. It continues to set benchmarks in research, innovation, and legal scholarship. Located in Patiala, RGNUL is home to a vibrant residential campus and a strong culture of intellectual engagement.
About the Competition:
The National Judgement Writing Competition 2025 provides a platform for law students to immerse themselves in the art of judicial writing, one of the most vital and nuanced skills in the legal profession. Participants will step into the shoes of a judge, interpret facts, apply the law, and deliver a well-reasoned and articulate judgement reflecting fairness, precision, and analytical depth.
The competition poses a contemporary and thought-provoking legal problem that examines the minimum age of sexual consent and the criminalisation of consensual adolescent relationships under the legal framework of Aryavarta. The fact scenario compels participants to explore complex intersections of constitutional rights, privacy, and criminal liability, while balancing autonomy, protection, and social morality.
Through this competition, RICE and RGNUL aim to encourage nuanced judicial thinking, clarity of legal expression, and empathy in decision-making qualities that define the next generation of lawyers and jurists.
