Ten years. One campus. Countless motions. The Xth NUALS Parliamentary Debate is back from 6-8 March 2026 at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi, and this one’s built to be loud, competitive, and slightly chaotic in the best way possible.
Over the past ten years, NPD has grown into a flagship inter-varsity competition known for its competitive integrity, high adjudication standards, and thoughtfully curated motions.
Hosted fully offline on the NUALS campus, the tournament follows the internationally recognised British Parliamentary format: four teams in a room, 15 minutes of preparation, and no external assistance. With 40 teams expected to participate, a novice division, multiple preliminary rounds, elimination stages, and a grand finale, NPD 2026 promises three days of rigorous, structured, and intellectually demanding debate.
This edition is being organised in collaboration with the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Law Reforms (CPSLR) and the Centre for Health Law and Policy (CHLP), reinforcing the tournament’s emphasis on contemporary legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues. Participants can expect motions that encourage substantive engagement with real-world governance challenges, demanding analytical depth and strategic clarity.
The Core Adjudication Panel comprises Rushdoon Ahmed, Raghav Dagar, Muhyuddin Ahsan, and Minami Matsushima, bringing extensive national and international debating experience to ensure fairness, consistency, and meaningful feedback throughout the tournament.
A total prize pool of ₹1,20,000 will be awarded across categories, including Winners, Runners-Up, Best Speaker, Best Adjudicator, and Novice Champions. And yes, lunch and dinner are provided during the competition! One of those days brings you an authentic Kerala sadhya experience: banana leaf, rice, curries, payasam, the whole spread. Because if you’re going to prep for the most important speech of your life, you might as well do it properly fed.
Set along the Malabar Coast, Kochi has always been a city of movement, of trade, ideas, and argument. Debate here doesn’t stay in classrooms. It spills into corridors, tea breaks, and late-night strategy huddles over chaya and pazhampori. The city doesn’t just host the tournament. It amplifies it.
