Chief Justices of 3 High Courts

On 1-1-2026 and 2-1-2026, the President of India appointed Chief Justices of 3 High Courts, namely- Meghalaya, Patna and Jharkhand High Courts. These appointments were made in exercise of power under Article 217(1) of the Constitution.

The appointees are as follows:

  • Justice Revati Prashant Mohite Dere, Judge of the Bombay High Court, as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office consequent upon transfer of incumbent Chief Justice.

  • Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, Judge of the Orissa High Court, as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

  • Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak, Judge of the Bombay High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office consequent upon retirement of incumbent Chief Justice on 08-01-2026.

The Supreme Court Collegium on 18-12-2025 had recommended the appointment of the afore-mentioned High Court Judges as Chief Justices.
