Today, ISC stands as a truly multidisciplinary network comprising criminologists, sociologists, psychologists, police and correctional professionals, judges, lawyers, forensic scientists, child protection specialists, probation officers, social workers, and other stakeholders committed to understanding and preventing crime. The Society advances its objectives through annual conferences, symposia, training initiatives, outreach activities, and public lectures that address pressing issues in crime and justice.

3. Conference Theme

“The Security State and Digital Governance: Rethinking the Architecture of Criminalization”

This conference brings together leading scholars, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to examine how the security state and digital governance are reshaping the architecture of criminalization in contemporary society. As emerging technologies transform policing, surveillance, forensic practices, and the administration of justice, the conference seeks to critically explore the normative foundations, institutional dynamics, behavioural shifts, and social consequences of these developments.

4. Thematic Tracks

  1. Rethinking Criminalization, Due Process, and Penal Power
Explores the conceptual and doctrinal foundations of criminalization, the limits of state coercion, and the erosion of due process through reverse onus clauses, strict liability, and preventive detention.

  2. Digital Governance, Algorithmic Control, and Tech-Mediated Criminal Justice
Investigates how AI-driven tools, predictive analytics, biometric systems, and digital surveillance architectures reshape policing, adjudication, and sanctions.

  3. Criminological and Psychological Perspectives on Digital Societies
Brings theoretical and behavioural insights into dialogue, addressing cyberpsychology, online radicalisation, risk behaviour, and new criminological models.

  4. Forensics, Evidence, and Investigative Practices in the Digital Age
Engages with digital forensics, AI-assisted evidence analysis, chain-of-custody challenges, biometrics, and the complexities of evidence admissibility.

  5. Victimology, Community Resilience, and Decolonising Justice
Centres victim experiences in online and hybrid spaces and develops community-led, restorative, and decolonial responses to technologically mediated harms.
