The NUJS Centre for Sports Law & Policy (CSLP) is pleased to announce a special lecture under its flagship Career in Sports Law webinar series, aimed at helping students and young professionals understand the diverse pathways emerging within this rapidly growing field.

About the Session

As part of the broader thematic focus on careers in sports law, CSLP is hosting a session on Academia & Sports Law. This lecture will explore how academic research and policy-oriented thinking converge to shape careers in modern sports law. The session will be conducted online on 21st December by Prof. (Dr.) Subhrajit Chanda, who will be sharing his insights on the theme.

Guest Speaker Profile

Prof. (Dr.) Subhrajit Chanda is India’s first PhD holder in Comprehensive Sports Law. Moreover, he is currently the Assistant Director at Centre for Sports Law in Jindal Global University. His expertise also stems from his role as the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Global Sports Policy Review, the world’s first multidisciplinary sports education journal and Managing Editor of the Journal of Sports Law, Policy and Governance. Prof. Chanda’s pioneering academic work and extensive involvement with regulatory and industry stakeholders make him uniquely positioned to guide students on navigating careers at the intersection of academia, policy, and commercial sports practice.

The session aims at delivering insights on the following:

⮚ Key elements and practical challenges in drafting and negotiating sports contracts in India.

⮚ Regulatory compliance, dispute-resolution mechanisms, and their impact on contract structures.

⮚ Role of cross-border investments and global collaborations in shaping sports commercial arrangements.

⮚ Future opportunities for lawyers in commercial sports law, especially in gaming, e-sports, and emerging digital ecosystems.

⮚ How academic research and policy institutions (including work around legislation like the Online Gaming Act) influence industry practice.
