Registration of Centres of Legal Education

On 8-9-2025, the Bar Council of India again directed the Centres of Legal Education to complete their particulars and documentation for extension of approval and updation on the Bar Council of India Portal within 15 days from 8-9-2025.

Necessity:

Bar Council of India is required to maintain an accurate, public- facing register of recognized Centres of Legal Education so that students, parents, universities and State Bar Councils can rely upon the same for admission, academic progression, and enrolment.

Effect of Non-compliance:

The Centres of Legal Education who have not yet registered need to register immediately otherwise their approval of affiliation will not be considered to be granted from the academic year 2026-27.

Requirements for extension of approval- Upload:

  1. Authenticated faculty roster;

  2. Infrastructure compliance particulars;

  3. List of bare acts, journals, digital resources, moot court hall, IT facilities;

  4. Academic programmes and sanctioned intake year-wise with the university’s approvals;

  5. Statement of student strength programme wise and batch wise;

  6. Details of governing body/ management;

  7. Undertaking on the institution’s letterhead, signed by the Head of Institution and authorized signatory of the sponsoring trust/ society, affirming the correctness and completeness of all information submitted and acknowledging that any misstatment/ suppression will invite action under the Legal Education Rules, including refusal/ withdrawal of approval.

Requirements for replacing and superseding the contact details presently on record:

  1. Copy of the last Bar Council of India approval of affiliation letter issued to the Centre of Legal Education;

  2. University affiliation orders/ continuation of affiliation granted to the Centre of Legal Education for each academic year from the date the last Bar Council of India approval up to the present, including conditional or provisional extensions;

  3. Payment details pertaining to Bar Council of India inspection/ regularisation/ Guarantee amount, namely amount, purpose, date of payment, UTR/DD number, bank and branch, documentary proof;

  4. Current contact details for the Centre of Legal Education.

The documents needs to be uploaded on Bar Council of India Portal under the “Extension of Approval/ Updation” workflow in searchable PDF format and files should clearly named.

In case of portal access issues are faced, a covering email carrying the complete set of documents has to be sent to the designated Bar Council of India email Id for Legal Education compliance with the Centre of Legal Education name, city, and university in the subject line.

This will facilitate timely verification and enable the Bar Council of India to issue extension of approval and update the Centre of Legal Education profile on the Portal foe ease of access by stakeholders, including outgoing students seeking enrolment.
