About RGNUL

The Act incorporated a University of Law of national stature in the State of Punjab with the key objective to evolve and impart comprehensive legal education including distant and continuing legal education at all levels to achieve excellence. The institution’s endeavour is to serve the society through reforms in legal services by way of preparing professionally competent lawyers, inquisitive researchers, able administrators, conscientious judicial officers, and above all, socially responsible citizens, who shall be whole- heartedly and continuously engaged in the process of nation building.
About CADR
The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) at RGNUL has been established to promote students’ and researchers’ interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution constituting dispute resolution methods such as Arbitration, Negotiation, Mediation and Conciliation and it aims to promote and develop ADR as a vehicle for socioeconomic and political justice. The ultimate objective of the Centre is to strengthen the ADR mechanism in the country by emerging as a platform for students to further their interest in the field. A strong team of professors and students is working towards achieving this end.
About the Competition
To further its avowed aim, CADR has been organising the RGNUL Sports and Entertainment Law Mediation Competition (SEMC) since 2019. The SEMC is one of India’s premier competitions in the field of mediation, pitting the best budding ADR enthusiasts against one another. The initial two editions of the competition served as the Indian qualifiers to the International Mediation Singapore (IMSG) organized by the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI). Despite the turbulent times brought by COVID-19, the third and fourth editions of the competition were organised, however, in a virtual setup. We have been blessed with some of the best organisations in the industry ranging from the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI), the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine School of Law, Global Academy for Advocacy in Dispute Resolution, Mediator Network to the Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution Team (PACT), Krida Legal, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Markanda Advocates as our past collaborators.
Format of the Competition
The 7th SEMC will be held in an in-person mode, in the lush campus of RGNUL, Patiala, Punjab. There shall be multiple preliminary rounds followed by quarter-final rounds, semi-final rounds, and the final round. Universities interested in sending more than 1 team are requested to express their intention by sending an email to cadr@rgnul.ac.in. The allocation of the second slot is contingent on the availability of the total number of slots available with the Centre. It should be noted that the allocation of slots to any university will be a decision made solely by CADR-RGNUL, and shall be final and binding. Each participating team shall consist of a Client-Counselor pair (i.e., the Negotiating Team) and one student as the Mediator.
