The Centre for Information, Communication, Technology and Law at MNLU Mumbai, is inviting registrations for the International Workshop-cum-Seminar on Artificial Intelligence & Data Protection on 28th October 2023, in online mode. This event is being organised in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Criminal Justice Sciences & Centre for Law and Technology at GNLU Gandhinagar.

The main objectives of the centre include studying the challenges in the digital society from a legal perspective, facilitating a dialogue between experts, leaders and researchers in law and technology domain, working in collaboration between national and international research centres and providing consultancy to professionals, non-profit organizations, and public agencies in the techno-legal field.
Concept Note:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming our world, and impacting various aspects of our lives. In today’s technocracy, it is all-pervasive. From enhancing business operations to influencing decision-making processes and automating tasks across multiple sectors, AI is omnipresent. AI and Data Protection are two important fields that are increasingly intersecting each other. As AI technology continues to advance, it raises important ethical questions about the use of personal data and the potential for bias in AI systems.
It presents a complex, often opaque landscape, raising concerns about the potential violation of fundamental rights. In this context, there is an urgent need to explore the two critical dimensions: the regulation of data used to train, develop, improve, and control AI, and the use of AI in regard to certain data on the other hand. The need of the hour is to examine the implications of AI on data protection and vice versa, through the lens of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Understanding the German and the European Perspective will give a broader understanding about the scope of existing legislation in India like the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
