NHRC takes suo motu cognizance of reported assault of two journalists by police in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh

The NHRC noted that if the allegation of brutal manhandling of the journalists was true, then it raised serious concerns of human rights violations.

National Human Rights Commission: On 05-06-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (‘NHRC’) took suo motu cognizance of a press release issued by the Press Club of India (‘PCI’) stating that the assault of two journalists by the police in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly, under the supervision of the District Superintendent of Police.

According to NHRC’s press release, both journalists were further forced to record statements stating that all matters between them had been resolved.

The NHRC noted that if the contents of the press release on assault of journalists were true, it raised a serious issue of violation of human rights. Therefore, it issued notices to the Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh, calling for a detailed report within two weeks.
