AAP to vacate Delhi office premises by August 10

Supreme Court: The Division Vacation Bench of Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, JJ. extended the time for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to vacate its Delhi Office, situated in the plot allotted for the Delhi judiciary, till 10-08-2024.

Earlier on 04-04-2024, the Court directed AAP to vacate its office by 15-06-2024, so that land allotted to expand the footprint of district judiciary can be used for the purpose. The Court also granted liberty to AAP to apply to the Land and Development Office (L and DO) of the Government of India for allotment of an alternate land. The L and DO was directed to consider the request for allotment in accordance with law and communicate its decision within a period of four weeks.

The Public Works Department of GNCTD addressed a communication to the National Secretary of Aam Aadmi Party in regard to the allotment of space for a “temporary office building for party work” vide communication dated 31-12-2015 and allotted Bungalow No. 206 at Rouse Avenue for the purpose.

A Single Judge of the Delhi High Court of Delhi set aside the communication, revoking the allotment of bungalow No. 206 at Rouse Avenue and remanded the matter to Lieutenant Governor to pass a reasoned order after compliance with the principles of natural justice.
