ABOUT UNIVERSITY: Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur (MNLU, Nagpur) was established by the Government of Maharashtra through an enactment known as the Maharashtra National Law University Act (Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014). Hon’ble Shri Justice Bhushan R. Gavai, Judge, Supreme Court of India, is the University’s first Chancellor. It is a residential University engaged in teaching and promoting research in law and allied disciplines. The University has been recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the University received the necessary affiliation from the Bar Council of India (BCI) and is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

ABOUT CENTRE FOR SHAASTRIC STUDIES AND RESEARCH IN LAW (CSSRL): The University established CSSRL to promote quality teaching-learning pedagogy and research in Indic studies. Through the Centre, the University offers certificate courses and undertakes research activities to develop necessary literature and understanding of the interface between Shaastras and modern law in association with Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek.

JUSMANTHAN (THE RESEARCH BRAND OF CSSRL): CSSRL formalizes its research activities according to the nomenclature of its vision, and objectives and creates a brand of its own – “JusManthan”. ‘Jus’ is a Latin word that means law as a system/aggregate/a whole; and ‘Manthan’ literally means brainstorming/churning. This nomenclature is a Sva-Sangna or a term designed to suit the intended meaning. Going by the fusion of disciplines that CSSRL creates and provides platforms for, this name of a fusion character resonates with the vision of CSSRL.

SHAASTROTSAV 2.0 (A SHAASTRIC WISDOM FEST): Shaastrotsav 2.0 shall be conducted on a national level where contingents of students from various institutions across the country shall be invited to participate. Upscaling this event to the national level promises greater awareness amongst the youth about our parallel knowledge systems, garnering research inclinations in this domain and actual practising of IKS through varied activities in the most fun-filled and innovative manner. A contingent shall consist of a maximum of 30 students who shall be the participants of the various events in Shaastrotsav. This event shall create a national platform to aid Indic Knowledge Systems in garnering the much-needed ground-breaking academic rigour.

ACADEMIC EVENTS:

  • JusManthan Vaadah- The wisdom fest features a national debate on a shaastric motion with the tagline “Anishiddham Anumatam” – the unopposed is agreed. Marking focuses on clarity, logic, reliable evidence, structured arguments, respectful rebuttals, and key issue engagement per the principles of civil shaastric discourse, where coherent reasoning harmonizes with wisdom.

  • JusManthan Vināti Vinā- JusManthan’s one-of-a-kind Vināti vinā quiz tests knowledge of Kautilya’s Arthashastra, generating curiosity about the Indic system’s contemporary relevance. Vināti vinā stems from Telugu, a revered Dravidian Indic language. The name means “quiz” – an innovative, cross-disciplinary way to showcase the text’s enduring wisdom.

  • JusManthan Anveshanam– Jusmanthan Anveshanam’s research poster contest signifies growing success at the national level. Students across disciplines craft innovative posters, transcending boundaries. It enables knowledge growth, networking, and careers.
