This competition was organized from 10th February 2022 to 13th February 2022, Advocates’ Legion, Moot Court Committee in collaboration with the Centre for International Law & Relation organized VIPS International Moot Court Competition (Online), 2022 which revolved around a problem based on environmental law.

 

The students from national as well as international level participated in the competition and the competition was conducted via online platform “Zoom”. Total 29 teams were registered and 22 teams participated in this competition. The competition officially commenced on 30th January 2022, with the researcher’s test. Following that, on 8th February 2022, the draw of lots took place with the exchange of memorial on 9th February. The event commenced with the inaugural ceremony on the 10th February 2022 at 9:00 A.M. The event would be followed by the rounds of the competition. The purpose of the moot is bigger than learning skills but, it is a posthumous homage to the Former Associate Professor and Convener of the Advocate’s Legion Moot Committee Late Dr. Deepti Kohli.

 

The session began with the welcome address given by Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Salpekar Dean, VSLLS, VIPS and it was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, Chairperson, VSLLS & VSES, VIPS Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao shared his experience and journey of moot courts. He applauded the efforts of the students of the final year who pro-actively and enthusiastically organized the event along with their internships and studies. The pandemic didn’t restrain their zest and process of

learning and working on it. The Chairperson remembered the gracious years and work of the commendable Associate professor Late Dr. Deepti Kohli.

Remembering the gracious years of Dr. Deepti Kohli, Dr. Sushila Sharma concluded the session by offering a vote of thanks to the gathering, the collaborators EBCSCC Online as knowledge partner, Latest Law.com as Media partner and International Society of International Law as research partner.

On the same day, the Preliminary rounds took place in four different courtrooms and were judged by 14 well-known legal personalities including advocates and academicians. The top 8 teams progressed to the Quarter-Final round on the basis of the scores received by them in the preliminary round. The Quarter-Finals round was conducted on 11th February 2022, followed by the Semi- Finals on 12th February 2022. The Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals were also structured on the basis of the scores.

The final phase of the competition commenced at 7:00 p.m. on 12th February, 2022 where Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Director, Indian Law Institute and Prof. (Dr.) Sanoj Rajan, Professor at Zheejang Gongshang University, China & An Affiliate Expert at Harvard University graced the final round as the judges. The round was contested by TC-1351 and TC-1311. This phase witnessed an enthralling discussion between the honorable judges and the participants on aspects of law and facts of the problem. At the end, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha quoted that the outcome of a moot court is empowerment, accomplishment, and confirmation of one’s vocation. Both the judges appreciated the faculty members for the purpose of the competition that was in the honour of Dr. Deepti Kohli.

Keeping in high traditions of the legacy of VIPS IMC, the competition ended with its Valedictory Session on 13th February 2022. The valedictory session was illuminated by our Chief Guest Sr. Advocate Ms. Aishwarya Bhati Additional Solicitor General of India, Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, Chairperson, VSLLS & VSES, VIPS, Prof. (Dr.) T.V. Subba Rao, Professor Emeritus, VSLLS, VIPS and Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Salpekar, Dean, VSLLS, VIPS.

A brief report of moot problem and event was presented by faculty Convener of Center for International Law and relations, Dr. Navjeet Sidhu Kundal.

Chief Guest, Sr. Advocate Ms. Aishwarya Bhati Additional Solicitor General of India addressed the gathering and quoted that “the outcome to suit a virtuous advocate is Honesty, Hard Work, and Humanity”.

Dr. Sushila Sharma, Advocate Legion, Moot Court Committee announced the result and cash prizes along with subscription awards (From collaborator EBC SCC online).
