On 22 May 2026, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Meenakshi M. Rai’s name for appointment as Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
Justice Meenakshi M. Rai who is currently serving as Judge of Sikkim High Court, holds the distinction of being the first woman from the State to be elevated to Sikkim High Court Bench.
The Collegium led by CJI Surya Kant recommended 13 names out of which 4 women were also recommended for judgeship.
Justice Sonia Giridhar Gokani, who recently took oath as the Gujarat High Court’s 28th and First Woman Chief Justice, retired on 25-02-2023 after a shortest tenure of any Chief Justice in the history of Gujarat High Court
In a historic moment for Gujarat High Court, today Justice Sonia G. Gokani took oath as the High Court’s First Woman Chief Justice. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended as her name for the post stating that her elevation will bring a sense of inclusion and facilitate representation.
