President appoints Justice Lisa Gill as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court

On 22 April 2026, the President, in exercise of the power conferred by Article 217 (1) of the Constitution, appointed Justice Lisa Gill as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court with effect from 25 April 2026. She will take over the reins upon retirement of present Chief Justice of the High Court, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on 24 April 2026.

Justice Lisa Gill was transferred from Punjab and Haryana High Court to Andhra Pradesh High Court on 6 March 2026. Her transfer to Andhra Pradesh High Court was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in pursuance of a policy decision to transfer Judges proposed to be appointed as Chief Justices of High Courts well in advance of the arising vacancy, with the objective of improving institutional efficiency and administrative continuity.
