National Human Rights Commission: On 19-12-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognizance of the reported detection of six children with HIV after blood transfusion at the Satna District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh.
As per the media reports, one child was undergoing treatment for thalassemia, which requires periodic blood transfusions. HIV infection in children was confirmed between January and May 2025, and the case has now come to light. Reportedly, State Authorities were trying to discover if the blood transfusion incident occurred in other hospitals as well. The hospital had also initiated an internal inquiry into the matter.
Considering the present incident and similar incidents in different parts of the country, the NHRC observed that if the information given in the news report was correct, it raised a serious concern of human rights violations.
Accordingly, the NHRC issued notices to the Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, seeking a detailed report that mentions the steps taken or proposed to be taken, within four weeks.
