Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of 2 High Court Chief Justices as Judges of the Supreme Court

appointment of 2 new SC Judges

On 25-8-2025, the Supreme Court Collegium led by CJI B.R. Gavai in its meeting, recommended elevation of the following Chief Justices of the High Courts, as Judges in the Supreme Court:

(i) Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice, Bombay High Court

(ii) Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Chief Justice, Patna High Court

At present, the working strength of the Supreme Court is at 32 Judges after the retirements of Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia. If the afore-stated recommendations are confirmed by the Law Ministry, then the Court will function at its full strength of 34 Judges.
