Symbiosis Law School (SLS), Pune, has been awarded the prestigious Spirit of the Moot Award at the UNSW Private Law Moot 2025, organized by the UNSW Law Society at UNSW’s Kensington Campus, Sydney, NSW, Australia, from May 23—27, 2025, with the Grand Final and Awards Night hosted by Norton Rose Fulbright at its Sydney office.
The team representing SLS, Pune, comprised Gurumurthy Cherukuthota (5th Year, B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)), Namay Khanna (5th Year, B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)), Jatin Jadwani (4th Year, B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)), and Yagnasri Kumaresh (2nd Year, LL.B. (Hons.)). The team was conferred the award for best upholding the spirit and values of the moot, including teamwork, collegiality, and fair play. SLS, Pune, is only the second Indian team ever to receive this recognition at the competition.
The UNSW Private Law Moot is a prestigious intervarsity competition that brings together leading mooters from Australia and around the world to compete at UNSW, Sydney. Uniquely among Australian mooting competitions, it focuses exclusively on private law and commercial legal issues.
This year’s moot problem centered around complex issues on equity and trusts, specifically exploring the duties of a trustee of a discretionary trust, breach of trust, constructive trusts, accessorial liability for breach of fiduciary duty through knowing receipt and fiduciary receipt of bribes and secret commissions, and equitable remedies.
