On 12-7-2025, after a meeting between Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways and Ravneet Singh Bittu, the Union Minister of State for Railways wherein they reviewed the progress of experimental installation of CCTV Cameras in locomotives and passenger coaches, the Ministry of Railways decided to install CCTV cameras in all coaches to enhance passenger safety.

360- degree comprehensive coverage:
- It was informed by the railway officials that successful trials have already been conducted in the loco engines and coaches of Northern Railway.
- Union Minster has given a green signal to install CCTV cameras in all 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locos.
- Every coach will have 4 dome type CCTV cameras- 2 in each entrance way.
- Each locomotive will have 6 CCTV cameras-
✓ 1 camera each at the front, rear and on both sides of the locomotive;
✓ 1 dome CCTV camera and 2 desk mounted microphones in each cab (front and rear) of a locomotive.

Modern surveillance for modern problems:
- These cameras will have the latest specifications and will be STQC certified.
- Union Minister said that the best-in-class equipment will be deployed to ensure that high quality footage is available even for trains running at 100 kmph plus speeds and also under low lighting conditions.
- Use of Artificial Intelligence is also encouraged.

Data Privacy at the core:
- These cameras will be installed in the common movement area near the doors to preserve the privacy of passengers.
- While preserving privacy, this step will improve passenger safety from miscreants and organized gangs from taking advantage of gullible passengers.
