non-bailable warrant against Randeep Surjewala

Supreme Court: The three Judge Bench of DY Chandrachud CJI, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, JJ. extended the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Indian National Congress party member Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Surjewala was implicated in a Trial for alleged offences under Sections 147, 332, 333, 336, 353 and 427 of the Penal Code, 1860 and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, therefore, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him by the Additional Sessions Special Court MP/MLA, Varanasi.

Surjewala sought to move before the High Court against the issuance of the non-bailable warrants, however, the listing of the petition was dismissed. Hence, he moved before the Court under Article 32 of the Constitution of India.

On 09-11-2023, the Court had ordered for the non-execution of the arrest warrant till 14-12-2023. Now, the Court has further extended the stay on the execution of the non-bailable warrant till 08-01-2024.
