[‘Modi Surname’ Remark] Surat Court sentences Rahul Gandhi in 2019 defamation case, grants bail and suspends 2-year sentence for 30 days

As per Press Trust of India, Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament and the face of Indian National Congress has been held guilty by the Surat Court and sentenced to two years of imprisonment in 2019 criminal defamation case over the alleged ‘how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?’ remark during a political campaign.

Further, Rahul Gandhi has also been granted bail. In addition, his two-year sentence for the 2019 criminal defamation case has been suspended for 30 days.
