The Mar Gregorios College of Law nestled amid the picturesque environs of Mar Ivanios Vidya Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, proudly hosts the 3rd edition of the Mar Gregorios Moot Court Competition, 2025-26. Mar Gregorios College of Law is envisioned as a centre of excellence in legal education. MGCL is the Kerala’s first NAAC accredited law college and it is an institution of legal learning facilitating every student to be a professional lawyer to face all the challenges of the profession with a commitment to social and ethical values. The motto of Mar Gregorios College of Law is “Righteousness is Immortal” which symbolizes the values of righteousness, fairness and goodness that the institution seeks to propagate. The Institute does not only impart legal knowledge to its students, but also teaches them to utilize it ethically and righteously, for the men who uphold righteousness will ever remain immortal.

The Moot Court Society of Mar Gregorios College of Law, Trivandrum welcomes you to the live blog of 3rd Edition of Mar Gregorios College of law Competition, 2025-26. The competition commences on 22 January 2026 in collaboration with Eastern Book Company as Skill Partner, SCC online as Knowledge partner and SSC Times as the Media Partner. This competition is being held offline. A total number of 16 teams are participating in the competition. The event includes 4 rounds i.e. Preliminary rounds, Quarter finals, Semi-finals and Finals.

THEME — Honour Killing

MEMORIAL SELECTION ROUND | REGISTRATION COMMITTEE

The memorial valuation stage of the Mar Gregorios Moot court competition concluded successfully with 42 memorials submitted by teams on 20 December 2025, demonstrating strong legal research, structured arguments and analytical clarity. Following a rigorous and objective assessment based on pre defined criteria, the results were announced on 24 December 2025, with 16 teams selected to advance to the preliminary rounds and the organizing committee commends all participants for their academic effort while congratulating the shortlisted teams and wishing them success in oral rounds.

DAY 01: 22th JANUARY 2026

REGISTRATION | REGISTRATION COMMITTEE

The registration process began at 2:15pm.

During the registration process, we collected the soft copies of college ID cards, Government ID proofs and the declaration from the respective teams. All documents were carefully cross-checked team by team to ensure accuracy. A total of 16 teams, comprising 48 participants, have successfully registered to participate in the Mar Gregorios Moot Court competition. Each participant was also provided with Notepad, Pen, Brochure and File as a part of Registration kit provided by college via SCC.

RESEARCHER’S INTERVIEW | REGISTRATION COMMITTEE

The Researcher’s Test commenced at 2.50pm, marking the beginning of a focused and disciplined academic exercise. The interview was conducted in presence of two judges and the session saw researchers from 16 teams actively participating, demonstrating research aptitude, analytical thinking and clarity of thought. With an atmosphere of seriousness and purpose the test set the tone for intellectual engagement and academic integrity.

INAUGURAL CEREMONY | STAGE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

4:10 PM — Prayer

4:13 PM — Welcome Speech by Director Fr. Adarsh Kumbalathu, who warmly greeted all participants, dignitaries, and guests, highlighting the significance of moot court competitions in shaping the skills and confidence of budding legal professionals.

4:15 PM — Lighting of the Lamp by Director Fr. Adarsh Kumbalathu and Mr. P. Vijayan, IPS, along with Principal Ramachandran Nair, Vice-Principal Ms. Ushakumari, HOD Prof. Meera Mathew, Associate Professor Manoj Krishna A, and Ms. Manya S Kurup (President, Moot Court Society), symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and learning.

4:18 PM — Inaugural Address by Mr. P. Vijayan, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), Kerala. He spoke about law as a tool for justice, inspiring students to overcome fear, actively engage in society, and see challenges as opportunities for growth.

4:43 PM — Vote of Thanks by Vice-Principal Ms. Ushakumari, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty, and students for making the inaugural session a success, and emphasizing the collaborative spirit of the competition.

4:45 PM — National Anthem

BRIEFING OF PARTICIPANT AND DRAW OF LOTS | COURT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

5:15 PM — Clarification of doubts and briefing by Mr. Manoj Krishna A, Faculty Coordinator, Moot Court Society, MGCL. He guided participants on moot court procedures, rules, and evaluation criteria, and encouraged confident, professional arguments.

5:36 PM — Details about the trophy and certificates shared by President and Vice President of the Moot Court Society

5:45 PM — Draw of Lots and Exchange for Preliminary Round 1 & 2 conducted by the faculty coordinators and student coordinators. The team codes were announced, and the teams were assigned and exchanged for the two preliminary rounds to ensure a fair competition.
