Supreme Court refuses to interfere with Hemant Soren’s arrest by ED; asks to first approach Jharkhand High Court

Hemant Soren arrest

Supreme Court: The Bench of Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh and Bela M. Trivedi, JJ. refused to interfere with former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (‘ED’) in the land scam case.

While questioning his direct approach to the Supreme Court, the Bench asked Soren to move Jharkhand High Court first. On submission that the case pertained to a Chief Minister, the Bench commented that Courts were open to everyone, and that if allowed for one, they will have to allow everyone.

It came into light that Soren had earlier filed a plea under Article 226 of the Constitution before the High Court but opted for withdrawal of the same to approach the Supreme Court.
