The School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, was founded and is administered by Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). The parent university, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), formerly Christ College had the rare distinction of being one of the first institutions in India to be accredited in 1998 by the NAAC. Subsequently, in 2004, 2016, and 2022, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has the top grade ‘A+’ in the 4-point scale.

In four decades, the institution has become the most preferred educational institution in the city. SLCU entered the list of top law schools in India according to the NIRF Rankings declared by the MHRD in 2020. The Courses are approved by the Bar Council of India. About the Management Studies Committee, SLCU

The Management Studies Committee, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is envisioned with training and creating young leaders well equipped to lead the legal and professional world. The Committee is inclined towards establishing a platform for law students, irrespective of their stream, to gain experience and exposure in the field of Management Studies, which is quintessential for any law graduate to possess. The Committee aims to promote and nurture a culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership skills among the students by conducting various management-centric activities.

About the 1st National Legal Hackathon: Legal Start-up & Business Plan Competition 2022-23

Legal field has been facing various challenges for the last few decades especially in terms of pendency of cases and complex legal compliance. To address these situations, we need to come up with innovative mechanisms, initiatives in the said field. Innovation and Startups in the legal field are the answer to this. We can witness many startups have come up in the legal field in the last few years especially by young minds. Ministries, Government Departments /bodies have initiated various innovative schemes for serving people at large.

The Management Studies Committee, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with C-IESC, is launching its 1st National Legal Hackathon: Legal Start-up & Business Plan Competition 2022-23, open to under-graduate, post-graduate students and research scholars who are presently enrolled with any University and College across the country with the aim of stimulating the spirit of entrepreneurship among students. The primary purpose of this competition is to provide an opportunity for budding entrepreneurs across the country to present their ideas and to create a platform for all legal start-ups to exhibit their ideas and work in a competitive ambience.

The Theme of the Competition

The main objective of conducting such an event is to provide individuals with a platform to present their business ideas for establishing a legal start-up with the intent to motivate and provide practical and technical guidance for improvement. It aims to help individuals hone their skills to give them an early boost in their law school lives and their professional careers. Objectives To support legal start-ups. To determine their own legal career prospects and to inspire students. To offer all assistance necessary for establishing legitimate start-ups.

Guidelines of the Competition

The competition is open to all undergraduate, postgraduate, PHD scholars. The competition will be conducted in three phases: the first phase will be a screening round. The second will be the preliminary round which will be held virtually on Webex. And the final round will be conducted offline at the School of law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru.

Screening Round (Round 1)

Teams will be evaluated and shortlisted based on the proposal submitted by them.

The Proposal Document shall include:

The teams are required to send their initial proposal for the screening round in not more than 350 words. The submissions should be done in PDF format.

Preliminary Round (Round 2)

The preliminary round will be conducted online on the Webex platform.

The selected teams will be will have to submit another document for the second round in accordance to the following guidelines (marked as Annexure 1).

NOTE: The document should not exceed 6 pages. The teams would be given 8 minutes to present their Idea in brief which will be followed by a Q&A Session which would last for 3-5 minutes.

Final Round (Round 3)

The teams will be given 15 mins to present their ideas, followed by a 6-8 mins Q&A session. The final business plan should consist of:

NOTE: The document shall not exceed 15 pages. (Additional 05 pages can be attached as supporting documents) Business Idea/ Proposal for the final round should be sent in PDF file along with a business presentation in PPT/PDF format.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Submission of applications (Screening round)- 31st December, 2022

Communication of acceptance of applications- 5th January, 2023

Preliminary Round (Virtual)- 13th January, 2023

Final round (Physical)- 27th February, 2023

Registration

Participation is allowed only as a team and each team needs to have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 members.

There is a basic registration fee of Rupees 350 (inclusive of GST) which needs to be paid by each member of a team who qualify to the preliminary round (Round 2).

Awards

E-Certificate of Participation to every team who qualifies to the preliminary rounds.

Certificate of Merit to the top 5 teams who qualify to the final rounds.

Rewards for the 1st and 2nd positions:

1st place/Winners -Rs.12000 + Certificate of Merit + Momento

2nd place/Runners up – Rs.9000 + Certificate of Merit + Momento
