Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Jain joins NLSIU

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Shrikant Jain has joined the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru as Professor of Law. Dr Jain was formerly teaching at and serving as the officiating principal at ILS Law college, Pune.

Dr. Jain self-identifies as totally blind since birth, and is a prominent disability rights activist. Dr Jain pursued his graduation, post-graduation and Ph.D in law at the RSTM University of Nagpur.  He has had a teaching experience of 25 years across various institutions. In 2004, he received the National Award in the ‘Employee Category,’ instituted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, from former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

His scholarships have been cited by Hon. Justice D Y Chandrachud, Supreme Court of India in  Vikash Kumar v. UPSC, (2021) 5 SCC 370, and in State of Jharkhand v. Brahmputra Metallics Ltd., 2020 SCC OnLine SC 968.

Dr Jain described his aim at NLS as a teacher is to “ensure that constitution in action, and jurisprudence as translated in realities of life, is delivered to students.” He also plans to help the institution become a model for all law schools in India on accessibility for students with disabilities.
