GNLU and George Washington University Law School are jointly hosting a Certificate Course on “Patent Law Practices in the United States, India and China” on 3-4 October, 2018 at Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar.

About The George Washington University Law School – India Studies Center:  Since 2004, the  George Washington University  Law School in  association  with  the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has hosted the IP Summit in India as part of its India  Studies Center.  The annual  event  seeks to enhance  education  in  the  field of intellectual property  (IP) law. Participants  include leading academics, industry  leaders, lawyers, judges and policymakers in the IP field from the U.S., Europe, India and other Asian countries.

The IP Summit has certain distinct features: mock trials/moot courts that are held at an Indian  university (e.g., IIT-Delhi, National  Law School in Bangalore) with US and Indian judges and lawyers; judicial round tables;  court and patent office visits; and international conferences.  Summit events have been held in New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and Goa. This is the first time that the George Washington University Law School is offering this 2 Day Certificate Course in India. Attendees will learn patent law from the world’s leading authorities. Each attendee will receive a certificate from the George Washington University Law School.

About GNLU-GUJCOST Research Centre of Excellence on IPR Laws, Policies & Practices:  In 2014, the Government of Gujarat established the Gujarat Council of Science and Technology (GUJCOST) IPR Chair, which aims at developing a synergy between facets of Science and Technology with IP, to look at how the common man can be benefited. is aim is fulfilled by undertaking various awareness programs and intense discussions on the developments in IP, various amendments brought to IP laws and how they affect scientific and technological advancements. These activities are combined with research papers, in order to maximize the reach of ideas among authorities at various levels.

About The Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law: RGSOIPL in IIT Kharagpur is a unique law school that was set up in 2006 with a vision of building scientists and engineers into Intellectual Property Lawyers. e School has been set up with the help of generous support of a distinguished alumnus, Mr. Vinod Gupta (from the 1967 B.Tech batch). There has been an increasing relevance of law in relation to technological developments and a requirement of professionals and lawyers with understanding of the interdisciplinary areas of technology and law.

Topics to be covered : Patent eligibility/ineligibility, Utility, Novelty, Non-obviousness, e Specification and Objective Disclosure Doctrines (Written Description and Enablement), Claim Construction and Indefiniteness, and Infringement.
