ECJ holds that public WiFi providers not liable for copyright infringements by users

As reported in The Wall Street Journal,  the European Court of Justice has held that the owners of shops or businesses providing WiFi connection cannot be held liable if one of their customers uses the connection to offer content which is copyrighted, for download. The Court however, observed that the owners can be ordered to protect it with a password to prevent further infringements. The copyright infringement case was brought by Sony Music against a shopkeeper in the District Court in Munich, Germany which referred the same to the ECJ.
