On 11 May 2026, the Controller General Patents, Designs and Trademarks issued a circular encouraging shared mobility and adoption of electric vehicles among employees associated with Intellectual Property Offices in line with Prime Minister’s appeal for reduction in fuel consumption.

Main Objective:

Encourage all offices and staff associated with Intellectual Property to adopt fuel-efficient, environmentally sustainable and energy conscious commuting practices in their day to day travel.

Reduction in unnecessary fuel consumption and promotion of cleaner mobility solutions are essential for environment protection, reduction of carbon emissions, and strengthening national energy security.

Employees associated with Intellectual Property administration, being integral contributors to the nation’s innovation and development ecosystem, are expected to lead by example by embracing sustainable lifestyle practices and promoting responsible utlization of natural resources.

Measures to be followed:

  1. Employees residing nearby or common localities can coordinate among themselves for carpooling and shared commuting arrangements for travel.

  2. Preference may be accorded to the use of Electric Vehicles, including electric cars, electric 2 wheelers, and EV based public transportation vehicles.

  3. Employees are encouraged to adopt fuel saving practices in order to minimize avoidable fuel consumption and emissions.

  4. Use of public transportation, cycling, walking, and other environmentally sustainable modes of commuting for short- distance travel.

  5. Employees to sensitize colleagues and subordinate staff regarding the importance of fuel conservation and environmentally responsible commuting habits.

Conclusion:

This initiative will reflect collective commitment of the Intellectual Property Offices towards nation- building through environmentally responsible practices, while aligning administrative functioning with the broader objectives of sustainable development and climate- concious governance.

This initiative will contribute towards conservation of fuel resources, reduction of carbon footprint, and promotion of a cleaner and greener environment.
