The NUJS Society for International Law and Policy is pleased to announce the 3rd Edition of its Essay Writing Competition, organised along with the NUJS Chapter of the International Law Students Association! Further details for the competition are provided below:

About the organiser/college/university – The Society of International Law and Policy (‘SILP’) of the National University of Juridical Sciences (‘NUJS’) is an academic society that seeks to create awareness about contemporary international issues of legal importance. The Society runs the SILP Blog, which has been recognised as one of the Top 30 International Law Blogs. It seeks to develop a synergy between law and policy at the international level while recognising that geo-political trends in the transnational space have impacts at the municipal level. Along with the NUJS Chapter of the International Law Students Association (‘ILSA’), this essay competition seeks to further discourse on relevant topics in contemporary international law.

SILP is inviting submissions for the “3rd NUJS SILP-ILSA Essay Writing Competition 2026”.

Details about the event/opportunity – The 3rd NUJS SILP-ILSA Essay Writing Competition 2026 is being organised in collaboration with the NUJS Centre of International Law and Diplomacy. This competition aims to further discourse on relevant topics in contemporary international law. Participants in this pan-India competition have a chance to win cash prizes, publication opportunities, and merit certificates from NUJS.

Essay Themes:

The United States and International Law

Sovereign Immunity under International Law

The International Law Commission’s Work on General Principles of Law recognised by civilised nations

These are broad indicative themes. Participants are encouraged to narrow them down further. Further, participants are free to choose any contemporary topic from international law, such as trade law, third-world approaches to international law, etc.

Eligibility criteria – Students currently enrolled in any program in any recognised Law School / College / University in India may make a submission.

Prizes – First place: Rs 5000 and a merit certificate

Second place: Rs 3000 and a merit certificate

The top ten entries will be considered for publication on the SILP Blog or release as a special edited volume.
