HPNLU Constitution Day Lecture 2025

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, successfully organized a special lecture on the occasion of the 76th Constitution Day. The event, hosted by the Legal Aid Clinic of HPNLU, featured distinguished guests from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shimla, including Ms. Rani Thakur (Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel), Ms. Gitanjali Sharma (Advocate, District Court Shimla), and Ms. Kusum Sharma (Para-Legal Volunteer). The lecture emphasized the significance of Constitution Day, the unique and evolving features of the Indian Constitution, the importance of the Preamble, and the representation of diverse sections of society in the constitutional framework.

The event commenced with great enthusiasm and was attended by students, faculty members, and university staff. Delivering the keynote address, Ms. Rani Thakur highlighted the constitutional values of sovereignty, fraternity, and secularism, underscoring their relevance in contemporary India. She discussed the historical evolution of the Constitution and elaborated on key judicial pronouncements that have shaped constitutional interpretation over the decades. The Preamble was described as the “heart and soul” of the Constitution, encapsulating the vision of the framers and guiding the nation’s democratic ethos.

The lecture proved to be highly informative and engaging, enriching the audience’s understanding of their constitutional rights and duties. Participants expressed that the session not only deepened their respect for the Constitution but also reinforced their awareness as responsible citizens.

The event was successfully conducted by the Dr. Chandreshwari Minhas, Chairperson, Legal Aid Clinic, HPNLU and Dr. Ruchi Gupta (Faculty Convenor).
