Justice A.G. Masih, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Inaugurates the ‘Lady Justice’ Statue at UILS, Panjab University

University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, marked a historic moment with the unveiling of the Statue of Lady Justice at the UILS lawns.

The unveiling ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Justice A.G. Masih, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court; and Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, as the esteemed chief guests. Hon’ble. Justice Lisa Gill, Hon’ble Justice H.S. Sethi, and Hon’ble Justice G.S. Gill graced the auspicious occasion

The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Shruti Bedi, Director, UILS. Hon’ble Justice A.G. Masih, in his insightful address, spoke about the significance of installing ‘Lady Justice” as a pivotal moment, symbolising justice that goes beyond technicalities and serves justice in an impartial manner. Hon’ble Justice Sheel Nagu stressed the symbolic value of installing Lady Justice at UILS, and focused on its values in terms of fairness, equality and truth, specifically its role in nation building. In her address, Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, highlighted the importance of justice in distinguishing right from wrong, a message affirmed by ‘Lady Justice.’

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, senior faculty members, and officials of Panjab University. Prof. Navneet Arora served as the program coordinator.

The unveiling of the Statue of Lady Justice stands as a significant milestone for UILS, reaffirming its position as one of India’s premier institutions dedicated to excellence in legal education.
