COVID-19 | Temporary Closure of Law Colleges Across India

Note: All the Universities are now closed till 14th April, 2020 as per Government’s order.

1. Amity Law School, Noida

Amity University, Uttar Pradesh vide notification dated 13 March 2020 has announced temporary closure of the University premises till 31 March 2020.
All classes are being conducted online.
No update on examinations yet.
2nd International Conference on Comparative Constitutional Law, 6 ^th Amity Mock Parliament, National Hindi Moot Court Competition has been cancelled.

2. Amity University, Uttar Pradesh

Classes have been suspended from 14 March 2020 to 31 March 2020.
To avoid any loss to academics & learning, online classes will be held from the 16 March 2020.
The Moot Court competition which was scheduled to be organised has been postponed.

3. Army Institute of Law, Mohali

Classes have been suspended from 14 March 2020 to 31 March 2020 pursuant to advisory issued by the Punjab Government.
Mid-term exams and Court visits have been postponed till further notice.
Parents were advised to call their wards home for their medical safety. For the students staying back, the parents were required to send an email to the college stating the reason for same (Long travel distance etc).
The facilities of library, computer room, research aid cell, gym, cafeteria and recreational rooms of the boys’ and girls’ hostels were made unavailable to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Campus Gate will remain closed for Janta Curfew on March 22nd, 2020.

4. Law School, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi

BHU Administration, on 13 March 2020, directed suspension of classes up to 22 March, 2020 in accordance with the orders of the Uttar Pradesh Government. Pursuant to a notice dated 16 March 2020 issued by the registrar of the institution, the same has been extended till 31 March 2020.
(Since the students were already on Holi vacations which were scheduled till the 15 March no classes were underway as such at the time when the announcement was made and consequently, no student was asked to vacate.)
8 ^th Edition of the Madan Mohan Malviya M oot Court Competition scheduled to be held from 20-22 March 2020 has been postponed until further notice.

5. Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune

Classes for all colleges under the university have been suspended sine die, pursuant to circular dated 14 March 2020.
Students have not been asked to vacate their accomodation. They have instead been instructed to avoid going out.
Justice PN Bhagwati International Moot Court on Human Rights, scheduled to be held from 20-22 March has been cancelled. A seminar on Public International Law, scheduled on the same dates, has also been cancelled

6. Chanakya National Law University, Patna

The administration has suspended classes from 14 March 2020 to 31 March 2020, pursuant to notice dated 13 March 2020.
Students were asked to vacate their hostels by 1000 hours, 15 March 2020.
Following events which were scheduled to be organised by the University have been postponed sine die:
The Bar Council of India Moot Court Competition
A One-day IPR symposium
Convocation Ceremony

7. Christ University

All exams has been postponed for all students except final years for another month. It will held after 01 June.

Final year students will have exams as per schedule from 15th May, 2020.

8. Deccan Education Society’s Shri Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune

Classes have been suspended from 14 March 2020 until further notice.
The college library shall also remain closed during the said period.

8. Dharmarashtra National Law University, Jabalpur

Classes have been suspended till 29 March 2020 and online classes shall be held so that the teaching process is not fettered.
Students were asked not to join the campus/hostel until 29 March 2020 or further orders. The class test II for II & IV semesters have been postponed until further communication.

9. Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Vishakapatnam

As a precautionary measure, the summer vacation for the students has been rescheduled. The vacation will now commence from 18 March 2020 instead of 8 May 2020 and conclude on 3 June 2020. Accordingly, the classes will commence from 4 June 2020.
The students have been asked to vacate the hostel by 20 March 2020.

10. Government Law College, Mumbai

Classes have been suspended e.f. 16 March 2020 (date of release of notice) to 31 March 2020. However, the exams will take place as per the schedule.
The GLC MUN has been postponed as of now.

11. Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar

The Administration (temporarily) suspended all activities of the university after a notification was issued by the State Government (Notification No.CRN/112020/15032020/KH-2 issued by the Education Department, Government of Gujarat dated 15 March 2020).
Classes have been suspended from 16 March 2020 to 29 March 2020.
Students have been asked to vacate hostels by 18 March 2020.
Special mid-term examinations have been postponed and deadlines for other internal evaluations have been extended.
All the events, meetings, programmes scheduled are postponed till 15 April 2020.

12. Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur

The University administration, on 11 March 2020, directed closure of the University till 18 March 2020. The same has been extended till the 31st March 2020, basis the orders of the State Government.
The students have been asked to vacate the campus by 14 March 2020.
As of now, there is no news of the end-semester examinations being postponed.
The convocation ceremony for the five graduated batches (for approximately 900 alumni) has been postponed.
The CAN National Conclave, expected to host various dignitaries like Justice Tankha will not be organised as per scheduled dates.

13. Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla

Classes have been suspended till 31 March 2020 (extended from earlier declared date of 21 March 2020).
Students were asked to vacate the hostels and the mess services were suspended w.e.f 17 March 2020. The National Moot Court Competition which was scheduled to be conducted in April is likely to be postponed.

14. ILS, Law College, Pune

Classes stand suspended till 31 March 2020 until further notice (subject to updated notification as may be issued), in view of the notification issued by the Directorate of Higher Education, Maharashtra State dated 14 March 2020.
Students have been advised to visit the college website for updates on reopening.
The administration has announced action, as per the said notification, against persons found loitering in the campus without reason.

15. Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad

Classes have been suspended till April 14, 2020, pursuant to the notification from the State Government of Gujarat.
Online classes have been scheduled to begin from 19 March 2020.
Continuous evaluation scheduled in the month of March has been suspended until further notice.

16. Jamia Milia Islamia

The classes for law school as well as all other courses have been suspended till March 31, 2020. Materials will be provided online with doubt clearing sessions.
Online filling of admission forms for all courses has been extended till April 15, 2020.

17. KIIT School of Law, Bhubhaneshwar

Classes have been suspended effective 16 March 2020 till 31 March 2020.
BCI Inter University Moot Court Competition shall be held as per schedule until further notice.^[1]

18. Faculty of Law, Lucknow University

Classes have been suspended till 4 April 2020.

19. Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad

Classes have been suspended till 31 March 2020, pursuant to a Circular issued on 15 March 2020.
Students have been asked to vacate the hostels by 18 March 2020.
National Seminar, 2020 on “Changing Dimensions of Public Interest Litigation” which scheduled to be held in the last week of March has been tentatively postponed to 11 April 2020.

20. Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai

Classes have been suspended till 31 March 2020.
Students belonging to Mumbai were asked to vacate the hostels immediately.

21. Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur

Classes have been suspended from 16 March 2020 to 31 March 2020, pursuant to circular dated 14 March 2020.
The students may either remain in the college premises or vacate the same at their discretion. Medical Facilities and Food Services are available to the students who have decided to stay within the premises.
The MNLU National Commercial Mediation Competition, 2020 and One day National Conference on Mediation has been postponed till further notice.

22. NMIMS, Mumbai

All on-campus classes have been suspended till the 31 March 2020, though the administration is endeavouring to ensure online modus operandi of classes & learning.
The examinations will be conducted as per schedule.

23. National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad

Classes have been suspended from 16 March 2020 to 31 March 2020.
Students have been asked to vacate the hostel premises.
The administration is endeavouring to conduct classes online.
The BR Sawhney Moot has been postponed indefinitely. The University’s intra-college sports and cultural fest, ‘Carpe Diem’ has also been suspended.

24. NLIU, Bhopal

Classes have been suspended till 31 March 2020, pursuant to the Advisory of University Grant Commission D.O.No.F.No.l-14/2020 and order of the Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department. Online classes will be held to compensate.
All students were directed to vacate the Hostels on or before 17 March 2020.
All the scheduled mid-semester examinations have been cancelled.

25. National Law School of India University, Bengaluru

All on-campus classes have been suspended, pursuant to circular dated 13 March 2020 issued by the Higher Education Department of the Government of Karnataka directing to close the University from 14 March 2020 till 28 March 2020.
The students have not been specifically asked to vacate the hostel, and thus can exercise the discretion and choice to remain on campus.
Classes have been shifted to online platforms of Moodle and Zoom.

26. National Law University, Delhi

The University has ordered temporary closure from 13 March 2020 to 31 March.
The exams scheduled for 23-27 March 2020 have been superseded.
Students were asked to vacate the hostel by 14 March 2020, with an exception for professional commitments or personal reasons.
Flagship CCI-NLU Delhi National Moot Court Competition has been indefinitely postponed.

27. National Law University, Jodhpur

Classes have been suspended till 30 March 2020, by way of university notification dated 14 March 2020, pursuant to the notification issued by the Rajasthan Government dated 13 March 2020.
The NLUJ Parliamentary Debate scheduled for 10-12 April 2020 has been indefinitely postponed by notification dated 12 March 2020.
NLUJ Deal Mediation Competition 2.0 scheduled for 19-22 March 2020 has been postponed to 20-23 August 2020 by notification dated 14 March 2020.
NLUJ Administration has –

1. Requested all students to vacate the Halls of Residence by 21 March until the 30 March;

2. Instructed the faculty to conduct classes through e-platforms to ensure timely completion of the curriculum. Classes are to begin from 19 March.

28. NLUJA Assam

The University will remain closed till 19th April.
The following events stand cancelled: 3^rd Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition, 2^nd Abhiveera – the Annual Sports Fest, and the International Conference on Blockchain Technology.

29. National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi

The notification for (temporary) closure of the University was released on 10 March 2020, until further orders on reopening were to be given.
The students were requested to vacate the hostel by 11 March 2020.
Altus Disputatio, parliamentary debate competition, has been postponed sine-die.

30. National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi

Classes have been suspended till 31 March (subject to further extension), by direction dated 14 March 2020, pursuant to direction issued by the Government of Jharkhand.
Students had been asked to vacate their hostels by 16 March 2020, however, in exceptional circumstances students were allowed to occupy their rooms beyond the said deadline.

31. Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat

Classes have been suspended and the institute has resorted to shift to online mode of teaching from 18 March 2020.
The exam office has announced mid-term examination as per schedule in Take-Home Format.
Around 2,00,000 books have been made available online to facilitate learning.

32. Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala

Classes have been suspended from 16 March 2020 till 31 March 2020.
In order to cover the loss of teaching days, study modules have been uploaded on the portal which is easily accessible by the students.
The project viva shall be assessed via online means.
The hostels have been advised to be vacated, however students have been allowed the choice to continue to stay.
All events scheduled for March 2020 are cancelled, until further notice.

33. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow

Classes have been suspended till the 22 March 2020.
National Seminar on Emerging issues of Law and Justice in perspective of globalisation scheduled for 28-29 March 2020 has also been postponed.

34. School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru

Semester exams which were to commence from 16 March 2020 shall now commence from 15 April 2020.

35. Symbiosis Law School, Pune

Classes have been suspended from 14 March 2020 until further notice.
The Symbiosis International Criminal Trial Advocacy Moot was called off the last moment and participants who had arrived for the competition were asked to leave in lieu of preventive measures.
Symbiosis International University has cancelled Term End Examination (Regular and Backlog) for April Season due to extraordinary circumstances arising out of the outbreak of COVID 19.

36. Symbiosis Law School, Noida

The law school has been closed from 14 March 2020 to 2 April 2020.
External backlogs and internal exams have been postponed. The schedule for the same shall be notified.

37. Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirapalli:

Classes have been suspended till 31 March 2020, by way of notification issued by the administration of the University, pursuant to the State Government’s order.
The students, at their discretion may stay in the Halls of residence.
The mid-semester examinations scheduled to commence from 18 March remain in abeyance.

38. University School of Law and Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

Classes for the university schools and affiliated colleges have been suspended till 31 March 2020, pursuant to the directions from the Government of NCT of Delhi, the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, by way of notice dated 13 March 2020.
The examinations will be held as per schedule.
The Indraprastha National Moot Court Competition, 2020 which was scheduled to be held from 27 – 29 March 2020 has been postponed till further notice.

39. VIT, Vellore

The summer vacation for the academic year have been preponed for all students for all programmes of the Institution.
The revised summer vacation commences from 16 March 2020 and shall end on 31 May 2020.
The winter semester classes will continue from 1 June 2020 to 24 June 2020.

40. Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies

Classes have been suspended till 31 March 2020.
VIPS DRCC National Mediation Competition scheduled to be held on 28 March 2020 has been postponed till further notice.

41. West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences

Classes for B.A.LL.B./LL.M./Ph.D. including credit courses and guest lectures have been suspended from 16 March 2020 t 31 March 2020, pursuant to the direction of the State Government to close down all educational establishments it was notified that all classes for
The examination for the winter semester has been rescheduled.
The convocation ceremony has also been rescheduled.

^[1] Student comment: The competition is happening as scheduled as of now, however, keeping in mind that health is of utmost priority, a concrete decision will be taken by the end of the week and will be notified at the earliest.
