Rishika Sahgal, a student of the batch of 2015, National Law University, Delhi has been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship this year. She became the first student of NLU Delhi to achieve this feat. She has served as a core team member at the Death Penalty Research Project where she was the member of Analysis and Review team, the Website team and was a senior field researcher for the project. At the third convocation of the University held recently, she was awarded a gold medal for her work in Legal Aid and Community outreach.
Each year, there are five Rhodes Scholarships available for India to enable outstanding students, chosen on the basis of exceptional intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service, to study at the University of Oxford. The first Indian Rhodes Scholars took up residence in Oxford in 1947, and since that time nearly two hundred Indians have been awarded this prestigious scholarship.
