National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) declared as an “Unlawful Association” by the Central Government

On 23 November 2014, the Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3(1); of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), declared the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) as an unlawful association. The aim of NDFB is “Liberation of Bodoland” consisting largely of Bodo inhabited areas of Assam and to bring the secession of the said areas from India. However, in furtherance of its objectives to create a separate Bodoland, they have been indulged in following activities:

The Central Government, on the opinion that unless the unlawful activities of the NDFB are kept under control, the organisation may re-group and re-arm itself, make fresh recruitments, indulge in violent, terrorist and secessionist activities, collect funds and endanger the lives of innocent citizens and security forces personnel, declared the NDFB as an “unlawful association” and directed this notification to be effective with immediate effect.
