The corridors of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law are getting ready for three exciting days of arguments, debates, and courtroom action as the college hosts the 4th Edition of Justice G.D. Kamat Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition, 2026, from 26th to 28th February. The competition will bring together young law students from across the country, all eager to test their skills in advocacy, research, and legal reasoning. This year introduces a new Researcher’s Interview Round, designed to recognize and evaluate the analytical depth, preparation, and research acumen of participating teams.
The Justice G. D. Kamat Memorial National Moot Court Competition was instituted by V. M. Salgaocar College of Law, in collaboration with the G. D. Kamat Charitable Trust, in honour of Late Justice G. D. Kamat. The 1st edition (2023) saw 26 participating teams from across
India: NLU Bhopal winning, and Gurusiddappa Kotambri Law College, Hubballi, finishing as runners-up. The 2nd edition (2024) hosted 24 institutions, where Christ University secured the championship and R. V. Institute of Legal Studies, Bangalore were runners-up. The 3rd edition (2025) welcomed 26 teams. KES Shri Jayantilal H. Patel College, Mumbai won, and Christ University, Bangalore were runners-up. Special awards went to Disha Lalit Jain (Best Mooter), Nandana Suresh (Best Researcher), and Shahaji Law College, Kolhapur (Best Memorial).
The Inaugural Ceremony will be graced by Shri Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Goa, as the Chief Guest, while the Valedictory Ceremony will be honoured by the presence of Hon’ble Shri Justice R.M.S. Khandeparkar, Former Judge of the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
This moot court competition is held in memory of Late Justice G.D. Kamat, the first Goan Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, whose contribution to the legal profession continues to inspire generations of lawyers. The event serves as a tribute to his legacy and encourages law students to strive for excellence in the field of law.
Over the course of three days, participating teams will argue complex legal issues before panels of experienced judges, academicians, and legal practitioners. From carefully prepared memorials to intense oral rounds, the competition will closely reflect the atmosphere of a real courtroom. It offers students a chance to sharpen their advocacy skills, deepen their legal understanding and gain valuable practical exposure.
With a spirit of learning, competition and collaboration, the 4th Edition of Justice G.D. Kamat Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition, 2026 promises to be an enriching experience for everyone involved and another proud moment for Goa’s growing legal academic community.
