The Central Government, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India modified the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee Rules, 2000 via Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (Amendment) Rules, 2021.
The modification amend Rule 4 dealing the experience and qualifications of Secretary of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee under Section 3-A. The modification states that :
(a) an officer of the Supreme Court Registry not below the rank of Registrar; or
(b) an officer of Higher Judicial Service in the rank of Additional District and Sessions Judge with minimum one year of experience; or
(c) an officer of the rank of Additional Secretary to the Government of India; and
must have knowledge of mediation and other Alternative Dispute Resolution activities and should have minimum one year experience of working with legal aid authorities.
