GNLU Center for Law and Economics has recently organized a ‘Certificate Course on Economics of Regulation and Globalisation’ on 12th February 2018. The duration of the course was 15 hours, spread across lectures from 12th to 16th February 2018. The Guest Faculty for the Course is Prof. Dr. Regis Lanneau. He is a respected French academician and Director of undergraduate program in Law and Economics as well as co-director of the Masters Program in Economic Regulation at University Paris West Nanterre la Defense. The other Faculty of the Course was Dr. Hiteshkumar Thakker, Assistant Professor of Economics at GNLU. The Course saw participation not only from GNLU but also from other universities across the country.

The Certificate Course addressed questions ranging from accountability standards to environmental and human rights treaties, to WTO regulation or arbitration. It focused on “regulations” in an international sphere. The course also focused on understanding of why regulation has to operate at different levels- local, national and international and accordingly what issues must be regulated at what level. Apart from this, the course also dealt with the intricacies of regulatory competition between nations, an investigation into the economic reasons for the functioning and non-functioning of international law, as well as an insight into the global financial regulatory system. The participants of the course were encouraged to analyse their knowledge of public international law and observe the same from the lens of an economist.
