Tanmay Agrawal of NLU Odisha & Student Ambassador, EBC conferred with ‘Sanghai Youth Leaders Award’ at World Youth Conference, 2016

Mr. Tanmay Agrawal, a law student from National Law University Odisha and Student Ambassador of Eastern Book Company has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Sanghai Youth Leaders Award’ at the World Youth Conference, 2016 for his extraordinary contributions and efforts in various fields like fighting for the legal rights of the underprivileged, helping them to get legal aid and also for engaging youth in social works in his hometown Bhopal. This international conference was recently held at ‘Vigyan Bhawan’ from 12th-14th November in New Delhi. This conference whose theme was ‘Youth for Sustainable Development’ had around 400 delegates representing  90 countries from all over the world.

Mr. Tanmay is an aspiring advocate, is in his final year at National Law University Odisha, Cuttack which is one of the prestigious National law Universities in India. Thus being from the legal fraternity and well acquainted with legal knowledge and human rights that every citizen of India posseses, he presented his paper on “Towards World Peace, Justice, Strong institutions and Effective policy making” which is the 16th Goal of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

We had an interaction with Mr. Tanmay Agrawal, awardee of the prestigious ‘Sanghai Youth Leaders Award’ and he was glad to get this opportunity. He tells us:

“It was an honour to be among the top few awardees from a conference which had around 400 delegates from all over the world. This award doesn’t only belong to me but it is dedicated to all those supportive friends, my parents and to all those supporters who made this journey possible towards this noble cause. It was equally a great privilege to interact with all such global youth leaders from all over the globe, who have been working in different ways towards growth and development. We have so many inspiring success stories so lets come join the UN movement of Sustainable development and change the world for the greater good of mankind.”

And this is just another successful step to make people realize and understand deep from within that we are not Indian, Afghani, German, American, African, Nigerian, Australian, Nepali or Bangladeshi but that we all are humans of this world striving for a better and prosperous tomorrow for now and generations to come! Believe in the philosophy of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’- Whole world-one family.

Details about his work and contributions:

He has been a youth legal advisor and a social activist working for the under privileged to get them their legal rights. He helped them to get legal aid so that they could go to courts for the enforcement of their rights or in general raise a voice against infringement of their rights. Off late he has been associated with ‘Ecumenical Abil’ and has been working with another global youth leader Ashutosh Kashyap and Ranjan Tomar towards realizing their goals of a better world by empowering youth and involving them in various growth activities and developing them in all dimensions: physical, mental and spiritual. Mr. Tanmay has also been helping his parents who are professionally certified trainers of ‘Reiki’ which is a divine and cosmic healing energy. They are life coaches who have been conducting personality development and spiritual seminars and workshops to realize the true potential of humans.

Further in Bhopal Mr. Tanmay had been working for the rights of people affected by the ‘Bhopal Gas Tragedy’, more commonly known as the Bhopal Disaster which was a gas leak incident in India in 1984 and considered the world’s worst industrial disaster till date which killed thousands of people and affected lakhs. He has been trying to legally affix a criminal liability on the Union Carbide Ltd., the pesticide company responsible for the loss and so that the victims of the accident and their families could be compensated. Further he has also been engaging youth in different kinds of social works in his hometown Bhopal as well as Cuttack, Odisha.

More about the World Youth Conference’16:

The cross-cutting theme for World Youth Conference 2016 was ‘Youth for Sustainable Development.’ This international conference facilitated a process that strengthened effective youth participation in the planning, implementation and evaluation of various global issues. Thus it referred to the process of defining the future global development framework that will succeed the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDGs) of the United Nations. This conference had many outstanding speakers and leaders who have voiced their opinion and also many achievers have given their messages for a better world.

What message do you have for our readers?

The people of the world should soon realize that we need to be working collectively for our main basic goals of sustainable development and we must strive hard to achieve our ultimate goal of a better and prosperous tomorrow! And this is just another successful step to make people realize and understand deep from within that we should not look ourselves as people from different countries with different race/ colour/ caste/ gender and instead that we all are humans of this world striving for a better and prosperous tomorrow for now and generations to come!
