Deputy Registrar, Supreme Court of India did not resign in protest of Yakub Memon’s execution

On 02.08.2015, the Registry of Supreme Court of India reacted upon the media coverage that followed the resignation of Dr. Anup Surendranath, Deputy Registrar(Research) and said that the report that stated that Dr. Surendranath has resigned in protest of execution of Yakub Memon is not only incorrect but highly misleading. Directing the Electronic and Print Media to immediately present the correct facts before the public, the Registry stated that Dr. Surendranath, a faculty from National Law University was working on a short term assignment on deputation and had been repatriated to his parent institution w.e.f. 31.07.2015 on his request as he wanted to pursue his interest in research projects. The registry also enclosed his Resignation Letter in order to verify the reason for resignation.
