ABOUT THE CENTRE

Centre for Rights of the Differently Abled (CRDA) is a student-run Centre of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad which has enabled all the students of the institution to showcase their interest in disability laws. The Centre provides both social and academic fora to develop this interest, and in doing so, hopes to create and sustain an inclusive environment for persons with disability. The Centre has successfully organized both intramural and national such as fundraisers, workshops and webinars by partnering with NGO’s. Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with NCPEDP in order to conduct surveys, workshops, seminars etc. in order to research further and spread awareness among the students.

IN COLLABORATION WITH NCPEDP

The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) is a cross-disability, non-profit organization, working as an interface between the government, industry, international agencies, and the voluntary sector towards empowerment of persons with disabilities. NCPEDP aims to empower people with disabilities through appropriate legislation, encouraging employment of people with disabilities, creating awareness on disability issues, and promoting accessibility in public spaces, products, services and technologies.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The Legal Opinion Competition is a National Competition conducted by CRDA in collaboration with NCPEDP. This competition is being conducted with the objective to inspire dialogue amongst students about legislation and policy for the differently abled community. This competition shall be open to all Graduate and Post Graduate Students currently pursuing their degree from any recognized College / University and through this competition we hope to provide a platform for students where they can advocate for the rights of the differently abled community and provide solutions for legal disparities in the system.

Participants shall be presented with a problem formulated by the NCPEDP; the problem will pertain to an issue/scenario relevant to current reality of the differently abled community. Participants are to submit their original legal opinion on the issue in written format that must strictly follow the guidelines mentioned in the rulebook. The submissions will be assessed by a panel of judges consisting of SLS-H faculty and NCPEDP members.

The top ten contestants will be invited to Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad to take part in the offline rounds of the competition. The offline rounds will be conducted on 8th October, 2022 and 9th October, 2022. There will be three rounds conducted on the 8th of October; the quiz round, the debate round and the presentation round. In the quiz round; participants will be quizzed to assess their knowledge about the legislation and current affairs regarding the differently abled community. In the debate round; participants will debate against each other following the prompts given. And in the presentation round; the participants are required to make a presentation with suggestions to the NCPEDP that will improve current legislation in India.

The cumulative score of all three rounds will be used to determine the top five participants who will further participate in a panel discussion on 9th October. The panel discussion will also include a Q&A session. The top three winners will win cash prizes and certificates of excellence. The top ten participants will receive a token of appreciation and certificates of excellence. All the participants will be awarded with e-certificates of participation. Valedictory will conclude the event on the 9th of October, 2022.

ELIGIBILITY

Graduate or Post Graduate Students currently pursuing their degree from any recognized College / University are eligible to participate in the competition. There is no cap on the number of registrations from an institution.

  • Registrations Open: 04th September, 2022

  • Release of the problem: 18th September, 2022

  • Last date for Registration: 23rd September, 2022

  • Last date for Submission: 29th September, 2022

  • Announcement of Results: 2nd October, 2022

  • Offline rounds commencement: 8th October, 2022

  • Panel discussion & Valedictory: 9th October, 2022

AWARDS

  • 1st place will be awarded a cash prize of 7,000/- and a ‘Certificate of Excellence’

  • 2nd place will be awarded a cash prize of 5,000/- and a ‘Certificate of Excellence’

  • 3rd place will be awarded a cash prize of 4,000/- and a ‘Certificate of Excellence’

  • Token of appreciation and a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for top ten contestants.

  • All contestants will be provided with a e-certification of participation.
