    • Pride campaign- Rangavali: Various sessions featuring renowned people from the queer community were organized as part of pride month for 2021.

  • The work of HAQ includes: Awareness Drives, Sensitization Programs, Legal Aid Drives, Complaint Investigation & Adjudication and holding interactive sessions that create an open environment for people to share their experiences.
  • Two key activities by HAQ are:
    • They do awareness programmes where they talk about the science and other general idea about the community. Through sessions, they also open up and share their experiences.
    • One of the editions of Hidayat (college magazine) was dedicated to LGBTQ++ community. The club played a significant role in the edition.

  • The law school has a student-run initiative named “Diverse Sexuality and Gender Alliance” dealing with LGBTQ+ issues.

  • Two key initiatives undertaken by the DSGA are:
    • Webinars: A webinar titled “Bi the way” which dealt with myths around bisexuality, and a webinar titled “Embrace the ace” where an asexual person spoke about their experiences and sensitized individuals about the issues faced by asexual people, have been conducted.
    • Pride Month Drives:Throughout June, 2019 (Pride Month), the organisation worked on different online drives to generate awareness about the LGBTQ+IA+ Community through webinars, film festivals, Instagram Q&As, and posts and stories.

    • Book Reader’s Club: Members discuss books and movies informally and acquaint themselves with progressive and backward films alike, once in every semester.
    • PRIDE Parade & Sensitisation: Ongoing Project to hold a PRIDE parade for all the marginalised and LGBTQ+IA+ intersections.

  • The law school has various general clubs such as the “Health and Wellness Committee” and “Qreka” established by the law school to undertake research and study of LGBTQ+ related matters.
  • The work of the clubs includes: awareness drives, sensitization programs, legal aid drives, counselling services made available in a safe space viaHealth and wellness centre room and on YourDost platform online.
  • Two key activities undertaken by the Health and Wellness Committee are:
    • Article Writing Competition: Articles were invited on various topics related to mental health. One such topic was ‘LGBTQ+ community and mental health’.
    • Counselling services: YourDost is an online platform for which all NLUO students are provided access. They can avail mental health counseling for all issues, including the specific issues faced by LGBTQ+IA+. A counsellor is also available on campus from time to time to discuss these issues. Complete confidentiality is provided.

    • A research project concerning LGBTQ rights and a prospective legislation draft concerning the protection of gender minorities.

    • International Women’s Day: An event conducted in collaboration with the Public Policy and Governance Committee on 8th March, 2022. A panel discussion on ‘Women in Policy’ was hosted with an objective to educate and engage the audience on the importance placed upon the amalgamation of gender equality and policy.
    • FLUID Newsletter: FLUID’ is a quarterly student-run e-newsletter released by The Gender Studies Committee, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University. It seeks to encourage conversations, academic discussions, and general discourse on gender and its intersections through this newsletter. Contributors are asked to look at the world from a feminist eye – beyond classroom discourse – to analyze and examine everyday gendered tasks, be it gendered classroom seating or gendered binary dress codes and put them in words.”

    • Webinar on Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019: The club hosted a Webinar on “Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) 2019” on 26th June, 2020. The webinar aimed to create a forum for the discussion of the Act that was recently passed and how it affects such individuals’ lives. This was brought about through first-hand narratives of the struggles and challenges present in the battle for equality of rights.


Tamil Nadu National Law University, Trichy

    • Circulated a fortnightly, university-wide newsletter called “Out, About and Equal” with select feminist news and articles.
