The press release issued on May 27, 2022 by UIDAI, Bengaluru Regional Office has been withdrawn with immediate effect on May 29, 2022.

On May 27, 2022, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had issued a new advisory cautioning citizens on sharing the photocopy of their Aadhaar card with any organisations on account of misuse. The Ministry had advised to use a masked Aadhaar which displays only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number. The same can be downloaded from UIDAI official website. It was notified that the Organisations which have obtained a user license from the UIDAI can use Aadhaar for establishing the identity of a person. Unlicensed private entities like hotels or film halls were not permitted to collect or keep copies of Aadhaar card.
