The Indian Law Society is a non-profit organization established in 1923 with the purpose of advancing excellence in legal education. Professor S. P. Sathe Foundation was set up by the Indian Law Society with a view to commemorate Professor Sathe’s contribution to Indian Jurisprudence and Social Action and to encourage law students in their academic pursuits.

 

Professor Sathe was the Principal of ILS Law College – an acclaimed institute of excellence in the field of legal education, also established by the Indian Law Society – from 1976 to 1991, and Secretary of the Indian Law Society until 2002. He was the Founder Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, the President of the Maharashtra People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), and a Vice President of the National PUCL. He is an acknowledged authority on Constitutional and Administrative Law and has contributed extensively to the field of legal education. Known for his humility, Professor Sathe endeared himself to his colleagues and students alike.

 

In furtherance of his commitment to academic excellence, “Remembering S.P. Sathe” –  the flagship event of the institute is organized every year on a specific theme. The event consists of a Public Memorial Lecture, Moot Court Competition, and Conference held at ILS Law College, Pune. The theme for this year’s event is Climate Change.

 

ILS Law College Pune announces the 16th International Moot Court Competition 2021-2022 in memory of Prof. SP Sathe, to be held from March 10-12, 2022. The 16th National Moot Court Competition 2021-2022 aims at equipping the students with the understanding of the nuances of international law, climate law, and humanitarian law, particularly when it comes to dealing with conflicting interests of state and non-state actors as regards the welfare of the people.
