The RMLNLU Legal Aid Committee has started a COVID relief initiative along with the Legal Aid Clinic, Alumni association, and the student body of Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University. Committing to its objective of providing aid and relief to people, the committee had launched a project last year to provide aid and relief to migrant labourers in the nationwide lockdown imposed in March 2020. Similarly, at a time of crisis, this new project has been initiated by the committee. It aims to provide relief to people struggling due to widespread chaos and misinformation regarding resources for patients infected with the coronavirus.

Its main objective is to assist people who seek verified medical leads on behalf of their relatives or acquaintances who are currently battling with the infection for their lives. The assistance is provided only after verifying each source, ranging from hospital beds to medicine availability. For this purpose, we have provided a helpline number that facilitates easy access for people in distress.

Moreover, the students associated with this initiative have compiled a database that includes only verified leads. A team of students dedicated to this specific task is constantly updating it regularly. The link for the database is also available on pages of the Legal Aid Committee on major social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

Our initiative took a definitive shape on 21st April 2021. We have 60 students working daily to facilitate the work we set out to accomplish. As of now, we have received 2500+ requests on our helpline, seeking assistance regarding medical resources and leads. We have been able to help more than 1000+ persons. The committee has collaborated with other universities and news channels to amplify our reach as a student-run initiative. We look forward to helping more people, saving lives, and hoping that our initiative brings relief to as many people in this crisis as possible.

In addition, recognising the lack of a verified resource database of patients requiring plasma of COVID- recovered patients, the Committee has also released a Google form for recovered patients. This form extends to everyone, and the details shall be kept fully confidential.
